 Fondo Santa Barbara was formed in 2015 by minerals professionals with extensive experience working with rural international mining communities.  At the formative stage they were joined by the Lowell Institute at the University of Arizona with support from Sumitomo Corporation. 

  Mined-materials can serve as a commercial foundation in communities that typically have few alternatives to create significant, transactable value. Working directly with communities, minerals professionals in conjunction with the full spectrum of other technical and social discipline practitioners have the ability as well as the responsibility to improve the quality of life in these communities using practices consistent with evolving global norms.
